The Hong Kong Information Technology Industry Council (HKITIC) was formed under the Federation of Hong Kong Industries Ordinance Chapter 321, enacted in the Legislative Council, and published in the Gazette, in May 2000. HKITIC is an industry group representing the software and IT industry in Hong Kong.

As a professional industry support group, HKITIC aims to attract IT companies and bring together IT related businesses to explore ways of developing the industry in Hong Kong and overseas. Since its establishment, HKITIC has been actively engaged in promoting the collaboration among the IT communities in Hong Kong and overseas; providing a united voice and co-ordinated approach to foster the interests of Hong Kong's software & IT/knowledge-based industry; and advising both the government and industry on the adoption of the latest management and technology practices, so as to enhance the efficiency and raise the level of recognition of Hong Kong businesses.

To ensure that HKITIC activities are up to date, the Council maintains strong ties with industry leaders and government officials. The Council intends to advance the interests and professional status of Hong Kong's IT industry, and to seek further collaboration and integration with the IT sector in Mainland China.
